This style of dance brought dancers together in one place where they showcased their choreography. Passinho, which combines elements of break, frevo, samba and capoeira, was created in the 2000s and has now been officially recognised as an intangible cultural heritage of the state.

The project was initiated by Brazilian official Veronica Lima, who highlighted its importance, arguing that this recognition will help raise awareness of this important cultural movement and contribute to the decriminalisation of funk and other artistic expressions performed by young people from the peripheral areas. This is reported by Brasil 247, a partner of TV BRICS.

It is important to note that passinho originated in dances where performers would gather and show off their choreography, which fostered competition between them and the spread of this dance in the different communities of Rio de Janeiro.
