St. John Festival and Summer Solstice: Fogueres Alicante

 Hello everyone,

Today is a special day for thousands of people who celebrate Saint John's night.

Bonfires are set up in Alicante since 1928 and they are a tradition, declared of International Tourist Interest. The objective is to remember the birth of John The Baptist, who is the Patron Saint of Sant Joan d'Alacant, the village where I was born and I still live. The other Patron Saint of the Village is Our Lady of the Rosary.

Alicante has also got two Saint Patrons: Saint Nicolas and the Virgin of Los Remedios.

However, Bonfires were very popular across many European countries and they are still important part of the contemporany celebrations of the summer solstice.

Let me share this thread with you to learn a little more about our traditions and culture.
