World Poetry Day 2021

 Hello everyone,

World Poetry Day is celebrated today, 21st March.

"The epic of Gilgamesh" is among the earliest works of documented poetry.

Check this interesting World Poetry Day Timeline.

Federico García Lorca is the Spanish poet and playwright most recognized worldwide.

One of his most popular work is "Romancero gitano". Lorca had a lot of interest in Arab-Andalusian culture and he wrote about it in his book "Divan del Tamarit". One of my favourite poems is "Casida de las palomas oscuras" which Camaron included in his album "Soy gitano" in 1989.

Apart from that poem by Lorca he also included in the same album "El pez más viejo del río" by Miguel Hernández.

You can learn more about Lorca and Camaron by reading IES Laguna de Tollón blog.

It's important to raise awareness of the importance of our rivers, its histroy and its role in our parents' life. It's part of our culture and we must protect our cultural heritage.

This is River Monnegre in Alicante and it has got three names in its different parts: Verd, Monnegre and Seco.

International Day of Actions for Rivers.

 Hello everyone,

Today is Sunday 4th March and it's International Day of Action for Rivers. "Rivers matter".

This is the famous River Thames but where does it start and where does it finish?

How many miles long is it? What is the flow rate?

How many bridges cross over the River Thames? Romans built London Bridge in 55 A.D. and Julius Caesar sailed up the Thames  during the Roman invasion of  Britain in 54 and 55 B.C.

Do you know the famous song "London bridge is falling down"?

What about Elton John's song "Across the River Thames"?

Creativity: a valuable skill.

 Hello everyone,

Creativity is a valuable skill and we must follow strategies to help students develop it.

According to Bloom's taxonomy of the cognitive domain, synthesis is one of the most difficult skills to master as a person has to use all of the other cognitive skills.

It's said that when students create what they imagine, they are in the driver's seat.

Year 3 students, Guillermo and Pedro, are very creative and they have brought their pieces of art to the school. Here you can see them.

This is Alejandro's LEGO house which he brought inside a wonderful box with the "Union Jack" flag.

I'd like to know what they would like to know.

Maybe Guillermo wants to be an architect.

This is Pedro wonderful picture. Maybe he wants to be a film-director, a writer, a sculpture.

What type of information do you share online?

Hello everyone,

Do you know what information sharing is? It is the exchange of data between various organizations, people and technologies.

There are different types of information sharing:

  • Information sharing by individuals.
  • Information shared by organizations.

It's important to talk to our children or students about the information we share online or in real life:
Information sharing by individuals.
It's alarming how a lot of people share information that should always be kept private.
