People show their love and affection for another person.

A red heart is the symbol of love.

Do you think we should celebrate Love every day?
Do you think this celebration is a con?
Do you think it represents unpleasant sexism which reinforce outdated gender streotypes?

Pic: www.visitlondon.com

The main festivities in London take place in Central London (in China Town and West end) on 14 January. Remember that red is the colour of the Chinese New Year, then you should wear a red jumper or a red scarf which bring you good luck for the New Year. Don't forget to buy something red for you of for your house either. This year is the year of the monkey. When will it be again?

Pic and some information taken from: The Telegraph

London China Town

Most of my  Year 6 students were born in 2004, so they were born in the Year of the Monkey. People born in this year are gentle, honest and have a long love life. However, they also have some shortcomings such as a impetuous temper and a tendency to look down upon others.

Do you want to know your lucky numbers, lucky colours, lucky flowers?

Chinese New Year 2016: Year of the Monkey.

Hello everyone,
Welcome to the Chinese New Year of the Red Fire Monkey according to the Chinese Zodiac. Why is it called Red Fire Monkey? The monkey is clever, energetic and inventive.

Chinese New Year is also called Spring Festival and it has got more than 4000 years of history. It started during the Hang Dinasty to fight against the monster "Nian", It has links with the five elements because ancient Chinese believed the universe was composed.

The monster Nian ate children and farm animals but it was afraid of light colours and loud sound.
It is the grandest and the most important event for Chinese people. It's a time for enjoying family and friends and remembering ancestors.

People usually give gift of red envelopes of lucky money. There are a lot of ancient customs, superstitions and stories about Chinese New Year.
Are you a monkey, a rat, an ox or a horse?

Why do you think people decorate their houses in red?
Why do you think people set off firecrackers?
Why do you think people light candles?
Why do you think people stay up the whole night?

The festival lasts for 15 days from the 1st to the 15th day of the first lunar month. The lunar calendar is also used for horoscopes. Which zodiac sign are you?

What about the  Chinese zodiac? Do you know about the twelve Chinese zodiac animals?
Which Chinese zodiac animal are you? What does it say about you?

There are eleven real-life animals and a mythical one.
Are you a clever rat? Are you a brave tiger? Are you a hard-working ox? An energetic dragon?

Every Chinese person is associated with one of the animals based on the year he or she was born.

Shadow theatre company: Attraction.

Hello everyone,
This week we are working the parts of the body and students have used their bodies to make letters.
How many letters can you form with your body? I guess some, but if you join other people you can make more shapes and make a lot of.

Let's revise the parts of the body. Listen carefully and repeat.

Do you know the shadow theatre company Attraction?
They are from Budapest, Hungary, and they also won Britain's got Talent
This video has left me speechless.

The group acte out a story of a man and a woman who meet at Stonehenge, fall in love, marry, and have a child. The father goes off to war shortly after their baby is born, and dies tragically. The piece ends with an image of the mother and daughter standing beside his tombstone.
