Happy Easter. Story and games. Part I.

Hello everyone,
A lot of people are celebrating Easter holidays during this week in different parts.

Read this if you want to find out a little more about this celebration.

What does Easter mean?
Easter is the oldest and the most important Christian Festival, the celebration of the death and coming to life again of Jesus Christ.

What is the Easter story?
Easter is the story of Jesus' last days in Jerusalem before his deathThe Easter story includes Maundy Thursday , Good Friday  and Easter Day.

Maundy Thursday or Holy Thursday  commemorates the Last Supper of Jesus Christ with the Apostles. It is the beginning of the three day celebration of Easter. Maundy Thursday 2015 falls on 2 April.

Last Supper

Good Friday Christians remember the day when Jesus was crucified on a cross. Some Christians fast  on Good Friday. This helps them remember the sacrifice Jesus made for them on the day of crucifixion. Some Christians take part in a procession, carrying a cross through the streets and then into church.

It is traditional to eat warm 'hot cross buns' on Good Friday. Hot Cross Buns with their combination of spicy, sweet and fruity flavours.

Why do we eat Hot Cross Buns?

The pastry cross on top of the buns symbolizess and reminds Christians of the cross.

People ate the buns at breakfast time, hot from the oven. Street vendors sang a little song about them.

"Hot cross buns, Hot cross buns,
One a penny, two a penny,
Hot cross buns."

Easter Day or Easter Sunday Christians gather together on Easter Sunday for a Sunrise Service. This service takes place on a hill side so everyone can see the sun rise. The traditional Easter gift is a chocolate egg. The first eggs were bird eggs. The custom of giving eggs at Easter celebrates new life.

Parents give chocolate eggs decorated in bright colours to children.

Here you can see some customs involving eggs:
