Nelson Mandela dead at 95.

Mandela has died.
Some days ago we commented "Madiba" was very ill. Yesterday I put the radio on in my car and I listened to the bad piece of news: "Madiba was dead". I checked my mobile and some African friends from London had sent this message to me: "Nelson Mandela has died, how very sad".
Yesterday, South African President, Jacob Zuma, said Mandela was at peace.

Mandela's life. Part I.

1918. He was born in the Eastern Cape.
Nelson Mandela was born in South Africa on  18th July, 1918. He had two names, an African name, Rolihlahla, and an English name, Nelson. He was a member of the Tembu tribe and he was the son of a chief.
1942. He became a lawyer.
The university told Mandela, "Go away. We don't want you here" Mandela studied at home and he became a lawyer.

1943. He joined the African National Congress (ANC)
He wanted to help black people South Africans. He wanted black people and white people to be in South African government. He joined an African political party, the ANC. Many ANC members were ill. Many were in prison. Mandela was often in prison. The ANC changed. It became more violent.
1948. Apartheid started.
After World War II Apartheid started by the Afrikaner-dominated National Party. They decided  that Black people, white people and Indians could not be together". . White South Africans had everything. Black South Africans had nothing.

"This is wrong", said Mandela. Black South Africans are as good as white South Africans. We want equal rights with white South Africans"
Mandela organized demonstrations against this law. The demonstrations were peaceful but the police were very violent.
1956. Police arrested 156 members of the ANC.
Police said they were bad and they wanted to kill the South African government.
1994. He was elected First Black President of South Africa. Mandela said they didn't want to kill anybody, they only wanted to change that unfair law. They wanted to be equal.
Nelson Mandela was South Africa's first president and he was also an anti-apartheid icon and symbol.
1962. Mandela arrested and prison
After a six-year trial Mandela was sent to prison. Police said he was a violent man. Mandela said he didn't want Apartheid. He was sentenced to prison for the rest of his life.
He was in prison for 27 years for his political activities.
